Moving through the different levels of the parkade

I just wanted to find out if any other residents have had these problems when moving up and down through the levels within the parkade. If they had these problems, how often they occur for you.

1) Guys who don't honk when moving through the parkade levels (I find usually they are Impark guys during rush hour and I try not to drive during rush hour)
2) Guys who honk but basically do it while they are already moving through the ramp (this one at least is not as bad as long as you catch the guy in the mirror while the guy is moving up or down)
3) Guys who honk for the fun of it and just drive through with no regard for what is going on in the mirrors

To be quite honest, even if there were traffic lights controlling the parkade levels, there are a lot of punks in this building who wouldn't even follow them. I found a few times when they had the 'single exit and entry' that guys just ignored the red lights and ran it and the guy running the red light had a mad look and was swearing in the car. I also noticed people run red lights in this city and I'm not talking about the one where its yellow and then turns red, its cases where its PURE red and there's no doubt it was red for the past 10 seconds and the guy runs it.

I think what I shoudl do is next time I move through the parkade levels I keep the horn HONKING the entire time I'm going through it. That way at least the impatient punk blatantly knows something is coming up or down the ramp. Any thoughts on that?

I'm also trying to figure out what would happen if two angry guys BOTH didn't follow the rules with honking and drove through the parkade levels with no regard of anything. Do punks usually fight each other or would they just give each other mad looks in their cars and thats about it??? I know Chris mentioned there were a few bad punks who didnt' follow the rules and Chris would just sit in the car and wait for the guy to backup or something.. At least Chris looks more intimidating than I do so maybe that acutally has worked.

Not honking

I can see why the honking is annoying as posted by yesterday's hero. There are a lot of people who acutally don't follow the mirrors and basically pay no attention to them. So basically not only are they not honking, they are also not paying attention to the mirrors and/or not realize what they are for. That's why I've acutally seen people try to drive into the ramp while I'm in it when if they did pay attention to the mirrors, they can blatantly see something is coming. Have you ever had that happen to you?

I've talked to Chris about this and he said that if he's in the ramp first then the other guy who didn't honk and/or didn't check the mirror can effectively go to hell and Chris had his car scratched up cause the other guy refused to budge and drive the ramp at exactly the same time.

In terms of a suggestion, maybe there should be a sign that acutally says "CHECK THE MIRROR AND/OR HONK" and that would at least make it so the some drivers know what the mirror is there for.

In the meantime I will keep using the horn when going through the parkade levels by holding the horn down to omit a continuous honk. If a punk is dumb enough to drive though the level while I'm blazzing the horn then the guy is most likely deaf as well.

i dont think theres any need

i dont think theres any need to discriminate against the deaf

Mirrors Reflect

I never honk when going around a corner. There's giant mirrors at each turn that plainly show who's coming. The honking is annoying.

"Unwritten" Parkade Rules

The code of the parkade, is to do both. Often (and particularly now, while the parkade is being repaired), the mirrors are dusty, so they don't effectively reflect the light from soneone's headlights (or they have an older car without automatic daytime lights, and their headlights aren't on). So, just using the mirrors isn't the safest or most effective means of going up or down the ramp.

Honking can be ineffective if someone has their music cranked in the car so loud they can't hear anything outside it (or they're plugged into their ipod).

The point being, for the safety and out of respect for others, is to do both. That is what most people expect (also because the honking existed long before the mirrors were installed two years ago). The most annoying thing of all (in the parkade), is having someone damage your car while you're already ON a ramp. So please, for everyone's sake, slow down, check the mirrors, and honk before proceeding.

Re: Moving through the different levels of the parkade

I'm sure that most likely all the residents in the building have at one point or another dealt with all of the three issues you outlined. I'm not sure that there's all that much that can be done about it, although if you have constructive suggestions, please lets us know.

Like you said, I've also seen people completely ignore the traffic control lights when they were used for controlling the entrance/exit. I think, unfortunately, you'll find these people in any building, I know I have. I think the best course of action is to set a good example yourself and for the most part ignore those who don't have any common sense.
