So I've had a couple people ask me about what exactly is going on in the parkade and why it needed to have repair work done to it, so I though that I would try to help satisfy some of the curiosity behind the parking closures and loud noises reverberating through the building for those who aren't versed in structural engineering or concrete science (which I'm sure there must be at least one!)
A great document that is available online at http://www.rjc.ca/cms/files/Canadian_Property_Mngmt_Oct_2006_Parkade_Res... describes in relatively simple terms what is involved with a parkade restoration and why it is needed. You will notice words that you may have heard before like "chain drag" and "delamination" so hopefully these will have a little more meaning for you when you hear them in the future. Note that I have no affiliation with the company that produced the document and do not represent RJC (in fact I work for a company that is RJC's direct competitor, but its too good a summary to ignore)
If you have any questions about the work being done, or the process involved, I am not an expert in parkade restoration, but I will do my best to shed light as best I can!
