Druggie Neighbors

So my lovely neighbors have decided to do more Weed than all of Jamaica and Amsterdam combined. Toss in a healthy amount of Crack, and we have a problem.

The haze wafts over to my Unit on a consistent basis. Pick a time of the day or night. It's there.

Any thoughts on what can be done would be appreciated, before I completely loose my shit and start spraying their unit with a liquid best described as 'Unpleasant'.

Tried calling the Security Line. No one picks up. Next idea in line besides 'Call the Cops', as that won't solve the problem.

Purifier

I am not surprised the police don't do anything. They appear to be quite useless in this city and I think anything short of murder they would probably ignore. Marijuana to them is such a minor offence that I dont even think its a criminal offence now to smoke marijuana at all. I think at this point your only option is the legal option. Which is unfortunate since you have left notes as you said and the rental office can only do so much. File a claim in small claims claiming damages for a estimate of how much it would cost to retrofit your unit so you dont smell the smoke. So basically find out how much it would cost to put a filter or some sort to block the smell and then file a claim in court for the amount against the neighbour. You can also consider the Landlord Tenancy Board but I think it will be quite lengthy before anything will be done in that area. I don't think you are sticking your head in the sand if you SUE the neighbour for the cost of the most powerful air purifiers and equipment to block the smell because at the end of the day, they need to BE RESPONSIBLE in some way for their actions. I do recommend that you find someone else to agree with you that there is in fact a strong marijuana smell so at least you can have someone else vouch with you in court if needed. I know consulting a lawyer and considering legal options all sounds quite pricey but you've got to remember that the only way to teach these druggies a lesson is to be on the right side of the law. Sometimes a letter from a lawyer is ALL IT TAKES to send a message to these punks

This is a harder battle I think to win because theres less of a law concerning marijuana smokers than there is against noisy neighbours who break an actual by-law. Why don't you knock on the neighbours door that surround that druggie's unit? Get enough people to call the police or complain and it becomes a REAL issue and not one they ignore anymore.

Have you ever thought of simply moving to another unit in this building? The cost of moving would be fairly minimal and it would solve your problem without you spending much money. I have acutally wanted to move for quite sometime but there's a saying that you're better off with the devil you do know than the one you don't know. So for me a bunch of nasty food smells and a screwy parkade along with a neighbour who enjoys playing music at 2 AM probably can't get much worse.

Recurring

Still happening, still complaining to the complaints email and the rental office, still calling the 'Security Hotline' which is incredibly useful when it's not a live person until 11pm, still nothing being done.

Going to make my Medley and make their balcony smell the same as mine when they smoke up. Enough already.

Judging by the forums list of issues, why is it that the 'problem Tenants' get lobbed into south tower?

Oh

To be quite honest YesterdaysHero I think your approach needs to be more structured in terms of addressing your issue in order for management to do something about it. This kind of 'threats' that you intend to do to the offending unit approach and ranting and raving approach is not working and I think your threats need to be directed to the offending unit rather than to the forum here which makes you look arrogant and tough. I have looked at the chain of comments you have made and each time you have made threats you will DO but so far you have not outlined steps that you already took TO the unit (like a note on the door or asking them to stop weed smoking). I would suggest putting a letter on the guy's unit stating your issues and that you WILL call the cops if you notice the smell. I think that would at least give you some reprieve from the smells. Have you tried the air purifier approach I suggested a while ago? If you place fans at strategic points where the smells come in I think you will find the smells wont have an opportunity to enter your unit. I have a smell problem myself and the fans do the trick. Some battles aren't worth fighting in my opinion and cooking smells for me is one of them.

I have noticed that alot of teenage punks in this building arent' very smart but are very threatening in nature so it is likely a hostile confrontation against these weed smokers will result in a worst off situation. You can take the high road here and outwit these weed smokers by using legal and diplomatic approaches.

Already Done.

Arrogant and Tough. Really? I apologize for sounding arrogant and tough when I enjoy a safe, clean environment. Yes, I'm such a dick.

I've left multiple notes on their door. Nothing changed.

I've called the Police multiple times. They don't show up.

I'm going to go out an buy an Air Purifier? No. I shouldn't have to, and that's a very 'Head In The Sand' approach. Ridiculous.

I'm open to an alternate approach when the rental office does not address the issue, the head office of said rental office does not address the issue, the Police turn a blind eye, and 'asking politely' does not remedy anything either.

Today's Feature is...

Yelling babble off the balcony, with weed fumes all over like I'm at a Reggae Concert.

Still no word of anything being done.

I figure I'll give it another week, and if a solution isn't on the horizon, I'll become 'unpleasant' to have as a neighbor.

Pureed chicken with a half carton of milk, left in the sun for 3 days should liquify nicely into something that will make their balcony smell 'yummy'. Much like my kitchen smells currently, as their drug fumes come into my unit via the connected vents.

Already written the complaints email address. , and already written the main office for Celtic.

Recommend

The thing is Yesterday'sHero, the weed smoking neighbours are most likely very dangerous punks who aren't exactly civilized in the way they treat people and would probably react very crazy to the point of mental illness whereby they come and attack your unit. We already saw what type of people are in this city when Chris's balcony was egged and Chris was only being polite in asking the peeing guy not to pee where he shouldn't. I think we should just be happy that this isn't America where these peeing punks have guns because since the loss of Chris would be very sad for this building indeed.

I would recommend that you go down the legal route and effectively take this to the Landlord and Tenancy Board after you have sent registered letters to Celtic as well as the management and letting Celtic respond with due process. The only effective solution at this point is a EVICTION notice put on that guy's unit. Sounds enticing to get revenge via conventional means, but believe me when I say that the best medicine for these punks is an eviction and a bad rental reference. Fighting fire with fire will only sink yourslef down to these guys level.

I am currently sleeping in my living room because there was a neighbour who played loud music that comes in my bedroom. For the most part security spoke with the guys and they have not played music since so I am acutally very surprised you are not getting any results at all via management and Celtic.

Perhaps

I'll head down to the main office in the morning. I highly doubt they evict them, as they're paying tenants. We'll see.

Ozone

I have an industrial grade ozone generator which is capable of omitting alot of ozone gas in a short period of time. It can eliminate odours within seconds and is the earth's most powerful de-odorizing agent. I use it on the stinky neighbours who like to cook fish curry that seeps through the vent system.

You might considering getting one in the meantime although they are quite expensive.

Idea

Send in the problem to the complaints email: complaints@capitalcentre.org. As both we on the Board and the Property Management team get them, unlike during the Larlyn days, the Board actually knows what's going on and ensures that things are attended to.
