So here I was waiting outside with a red light to the parkade doors and some teenage punk drives straight to the parkade door and doesn't even flinch and when the door opens, drives straight down. I'd love to have someone like Chris driving up when the ramp with a green light when this punk is driving down so that he can give this punk some lessons in being patient and how to drive.
Of course I'd be inclined to write down the guy's license plate number and report him to the police but I don't believe the highway traffic act applies on private property. That's probably why the guy knows that he can get away with it and I highly doubt a old lady like Shirley can lecture some discipline to these punks.
Some times when my wife goes to Save On Foods she sees people running red lights (where the light is clearly red for a long time and it's not one of those yellow turns to red kinda things) . They should install a red light camera at 102 ave and 109 st to catch some of these punks.
Parkade honk
I know what you mean wildcat with the doors taking a while to open up. What I do is acutally honk when the parkade door opens and I see there is no car down the ramp. What that does is alert the guy below that I am coming down so that way if the light just turned green for him, he'll wait a few more seconds to let me get down. Likewise, I also honk on the way up. This isn't the most fool proof plan for the lights changing and you are waiting for the door to open but at least it avoids a situation where two cars are trying to get exit and enter at the same time.
I've also had this happen to
I've also had this happen to me, but techincally we both had a green light. The light was green while I was waiting for the door to open but since there is a delay before the door actually opens, the light must have changed as I was waiting or driving down because a car came flying around the corner. If this goes on much longer, we should install a mirror at the bottom of the ramp to avoid issues.
What's the status on the parkade? I thought the lights were supposed to be moved after the last closure and things would be back to normal. Plus, I thought these repairs were supposed to be done months ago. It's taking way too long to repair the parkade...and for the longest time it seemed like a rarity to actually see someone working.
Not following traffic light
Yeah, I think it was a blue ford that wasn't following the lights. I remember the car being blue anyway. I do hope someone like Yesterday'sHero or Chris has a confrontation with the guy so the guy finally learns what traffic lights are used for.
Lights
The good news is, after Tuesday when the repairs are finished, there won't be any lights. Everything will be back to "normal."
What is that car look like?
I have seen a blue ford doesn't follow the traffic light.
Advice
Thanks for the advice. I'm guessing that its probably a select few punks who are responsible for this red light running and it probably is a consistent bunch. I would like to try to put the car in park and zone out with the radio but I think I'm too timid to acutally deal with angry punks. I also drive a very small car and don't have a big body build like Chris does so I wouldn't be able to put up much of a fight if the guy decided to get physical.
I'm just curious but in the few times that you had to put the car in park and up the radio, did the other guy move his car or did he come out swering or fighting?
Nothing happens.
I drive a hatchback. Doesn't matter if the other person is driving a hummer. I'm in the right, they're in the wrong. Move the stupid car, because I'm not moving. Go ahead and hit my car. I still win.
Worst they've done is give a dirty look. No one that anal retentive to run a red light, will cause a problem with you.
Do yourself a favor
When you've the right of way according the traffic lights, and some asshat decides to run the light and refuses to move, be difficult. Put your car in park, turn up your radio, and zone out until the douche bag moves. I've had to do it a few times now, and it works every time.
